Animated Adventures Anime & Manga Club Schedule

This workshop will give middle and high school students an opportunity to develop their drawing and art skills while creating professional-looking manga and anime art. If a student attends all sessions and participates, they will create and publish manga artwork and they create and animate an anime talking character sequence for a group video. Instruction is provided by Wendy Jackson Hall of Animated Adventures and guest artists. Please note that this schedule is subject to change.
- Drawing Process: How to draw like a manga/anime artist.
- Model Sheets: how to create and define a character.
- The Face: How to draw eyes, noses and hair.
- Talking Heads: How to animate mouths & lip synch speech.
- Hands and Feet: How to draw hands and feet for your character.
- Cel Painting: How to make anime art for color filming.
- Backgrounds: How to paint realistic backgrounds. Guest Gale Rogers will demonstrate brush painting and color mixing techniques.
- Making Manga: How to publish a manga comic book. Guest Manga artist Maki Yamane will show her work and demonstrate panel design, lettering, shading, layout and publication.
- Perspective: How to use perspective and foreshortening for 3D effects in your drawing.
- Layout: How to turn your art into a manga comic.
- Publishing: How to prepare your art for publication. At the end of this session, work will be collected for and published as the Manga Anime & Art Club Anthology book of manga comics and art by the students.
- Anime Art Party! Premiere of published book and screening of video of talking head animations.
